The City of Clayton currently contracts with Republic Services for residential trash, yard waste and recyclables collection.  Please select a link below for the collection schedule or additional information on each category.

If any of these services are missed on your collection day, please call Republic Services at 636-947-5959 or visit www.republicservices.com to report the issue. Republic Services field personnel will respond as soon as possible to correct the issue or inform you of the reason your waste/recycling was not collected that day.  For other questions and concerns regarding waste collection you can contact the Public Works Department at 314-290-8540.

• Trash, recyclables, and yard waste shall be consistently stored in the same location in your rear yard (or close to the rear yard as possible for residential properties. Items for trash collection must be easily identifiable as trash.
• All refuse should be ready for pick up by 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.
• Each resident shall have a once-a-week pick up for each refuse: trash, recyclables and yard waste. Residents may contact Republic Services to arrange to have more than one collection per week (fees apply).

Prohibited Items

Tires and car batteries cannot be collected as part of Clayton's residential waste collection contract.  These items and others can be dropped off at one of the events through St. Louis County Health Department's Hazardous Household Waste Collection Programs.  For more information see St. Louis County's Recycling and Solid Waste page.

Refuse Collection Rates & Contract

 Notice: "Year 2" rates (below) are effective for service 10/1/24-9/30/25

 At its May 9, 2023 meeting, the Board of Aldermen approved contracts with its current waste hauler, Republic Services, to provide waste hauling services to single-family and multi-family residences for the period October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2026. The contract includes two optional one-year extensions should both Republic Services and the City mutually agree to them. Republic Services submitted the lowest, most responsive, and responsible total base bid for both single and multi-family services. Republic will be working to establish accounts for properties and will be sharing additional information with residents over the coming months regarding this transition.

The rate for the first year of service, October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024, is $53.19 per month per unit, which will be billed by the hauler quarterly for single-family (defined as 2 or fewer units per building) properties. This rate will increase each subsequent year by 4.5%. The City of Clayton will cover 100% of quarterly waste collection service fees for certain qualifying properties by making payment directly to the hauler on behalf of the property owner. Competitive rates have also been established for multi-family properties (defined as 3 or more units per building) and each building, association, or property owner will set up an account with Republic Services for their selected services. The multi-family collection rates will experience annual increases of 4.5-4.7%. Rates for multi-family service occurring once weekly are listed in the table below. No action is needed by residents until you have received communication from Republic Services or the City requesting action.  Republic Services is working to establish accounts and additional communication, including the service selections of each property, will take place through future communications.  Initial invoices are expected to be mailed by Republic Services on October 15th to single-family and multi-family properties.  Residents should receive mailing with account information in mid-September.  These initial invoices will include information on how to set up paperless billing, online bill pay and auto-pay, if desired.  For multi-family dwellings, invoices will need to be sent to a single point of contact.
