City of Clayton, MO
Home MenuThe main purpose of the system will be to deliver messages that pertain to the health, safety, or welfare of our community that is being directly affected by an emergency event. The system currently provides only weather alerts from the National Weather Service (NWS). The alerts are automatically sent from the NWS; however, subscribers may customize which weather notifications they receive. The system will be expanded to cover street closures and public safety alerts.
To sign up to receive notifications, please click the "Sign Up" button below. This will take you to our Member Portal where you will create a username and password (be sure to follow character instructions and not add spaces before or after words). Those who register will provide some basic information. A phone number or email address is required. Please remember when registering that the more information you are able to provide us (cell phone numbers, landline phone numbers, email address, etc.), the more likely we will be able to successfully deliver a message to you during an emergency.
Adding your home address is required so that automatic weather alerts will be sent. You can choose to opt-out of automatic weather alerts. You can also customize the "Quiet Period" hours during which time you will NOT receive notifications except for tornado warnings and flash flood warnings. Our organization's default "Quiet Period" is set for 9:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., but these hours are customizable to reflect your individual schedule or preferences.
While we do have an ongoing database that has automatically pulled thousands of contacts that are available publicly through utility records for those who reside or have businesses within our city limits, these numbers may include outdated information and are only available for use to notify during life-threatening emergencies. It's also important to note that registering on the Member Portal will ensure that you are on our contact list and your information is current.
Important Note:
- Subscribers have the ability to select the type of weather notifications they wish to receive from the National Weather Service through this system.
- Subscribers also have the ability to customize the "Quiet Period" during which time you will NOT receive notifications except for tornado warnings and flash flood warnings. The City's default "Quiet Period" setting is 9:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., but these hours can be personalized to fit your individual schedule preferences.
- Subscribers may also select the type of notifications they wish to receive. Options include email, text, voice call and app notifications.
- Subscribers may also rank these notification methods in order of preferred receipt. For example, if you want to receive a text message first, rank that method as number one (1).
- Please note that subscribers who have selected multiple notification methods must acknowledge the receipt of the first notification to avoid receive additional notifications for the same alert.
- For example, if you signed up to receive a text notification first and then an email second, you must acknowledge receipt of the text to avoid receiving the secondary email notification. If you do not acknowledge the text, you will also receive an email approximately 5 minutes later.
We highly recommend that you provide more than one contact preference (such as multiple phone numbers or email addresses). If the Clayton Emergency Alerts System is unable to reach you at your primary contact preference, it will go down the list to try to contact you at another number or email address that you provided until it is confirmed that you received the message.
- Scroll to the bottom of any email alert and click on the link that says 'unsubscribe here'. You can also log in to your account and delete your account (or change your contact methods).
- If you received a text message, you can reply with "STOP" to opt-out.
- If you received a phone call recording, you can press "0" to opt-out.
- It is important to note that if your information was publicly available, you are not able to opt-out of this database. The City of Clayton is only allowed to utilize this resident and business database during life-threatening emergencies. Those within this database will receive an annual test message and will not receive another message unless a life-threatening emergency occurs.
For example, a tornado warning is issued for St. Louis County, but the cities impacted do not include Clayton. The tornado sirens will sound, but you will not receive a Clayton Emergency Alerts System notice because our area is not at risk.
